Evelyn, a youth psychologist, offers a tool to measure happiness. Calculate your happiness score using Evelyn's happiness formula: happiness = a + 5b + 3c
Your values for the variables a, b and c to substitute into this equation can be found by answering the four following questions.
Caution and Assistance
This happiness test, developed by psychologist Carol Rothwell, is indicative only and based on research with those aged 18+. Published version uses different variable names. It is not intended to replace any professional psychological services students may need, or be receiving.
Student psychological assistance, and guidance or pastoral services are available on request in most schools and colleges.
The Measurement Tool
To find your value for a, b and c, answer Q1 to Q4 which follow. Answers must be between 1 and 10; where 10 is "to a large extent"', and 1 is "not at all"'.

To find your value of variable a, add your scores for Q1 & Q2:
Q1 Are you energetic, flexible and open to change?
Q2 Do you have a positive outlook, bounce back quickly from setbacks, and feel in control of your life?
Your value of variable b is your score to question 3.
Q3 Are your basic needs – health, money, safety, sense of freedom and community – met?
Your value of variable c is your score to question 4.
Q4 Can you call on people to support you, immerse yourself in daily activities, meet your expectations, and do things that fulfil you?
