Lynda-Anne Poster Worksheet - GIB Clicks & Polynomials
Lynda-Anne uses PPC (pay per click) ads to market GIB® wall & ceiling linings to kitchen and bathroom renovators.
People who click on her ads are invited to request a GIB renovation brochure. Ads were initially displayed on 3 different websites (see table next column), to see which website would be likely to deliver Lynda-Anne's target of at least 260 brochure requests each week, at the lowest cost-per-request.
Lynda-Anne's Poster Questions
Q1. Lowest Cost
In each of the first three weeks, which website had the lowest cost-per-request ?
Q2 Cost-Per-Request etc, with Linear Equations
For each website determine an equation for y (cost-per-request), in terms of x (requests per week), assuming a linear relationship. |

Assuming this linear relationship continues, use these equations to calculate for each website a cost-per-request at 260 requests per week, and in what weeks these occur
After review Lynda-Anne decided to continue using all 3 websites for a fourth week. The 4th week produced the following data - Website A ($105.40, 170), B($99.60, 140), and C($129.20, 180).
Q3 Cost-Per-Request with Non-Linear Equations
Determine new equations now (using all 4 weeks of data) for y in terms of x. Use Lynda-Anne's comment that based on her prior pricing research Website A data should show a power curve, B a logarithmic pattern, and C a cubic polynomial.
Q4 Minimums and Advising Lynda-Anne
Using these new equations calculate a new extrapolated cost for each website at the 260 request level. Should Lynda-Anne use these costs to decide which single website to retain? Also advise on using website combinations if you wish.

About Mathsoul™
Math Posters & Maths Posters
Mathsoul posters help teachers to engage & energize school & college mathematics students aged 12 - adult. The Mathsoul My-Story™ series of posters show young adults along with their personal story snippets about classroom mathematics helping them in life beyond the classroom
Individual posters can be displayed for extended periods, but like billboards they have extra impact when changed periodically. Effectiveness is also enhanced when students respond to the posters' questions by posting answers on the Mathsoul internet Forum - in class, or as homework task.
